Death of Common Sense

The fate of Common Sense is in your hands…

Common Sense died as we entered the Naughties; six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment
for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, teacher fired for
reprimanding an unruly student, schools required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a
student, honor student expelled for having a table knife in her school lunch, a government plan to ban
inhalers from 14 million asthmatics due to a trace of a pollutant that may be harmful to the environment.

Common Sense gets resurrected here and now.

Woman killed as train crushes car

StupidBeetle

Red means go… Huh?

They Say:

“A Young preschool teacher who was about to be married died when her small car was crushed after being hit by a V/Line train. Kay Stanley stood no chance when she drove her Volkswagen Beetle across railway tracks as the train approached Tyabb station yesterday morning. Despite efforts by the train’s driver to slow down, the train slammed into the VW’s driver’s door, dragging it more than 200m along the track. Wedged under the front of the train, the little car then slammed into the station platform, where it was completely crushed between concrete and train.

Shocked Tyabb residents, angry the crossing does not have boom gates, stared in disbelief and distress as what was left of the car was eventually towed away. Tyabb shift supervisor Earle Sellers, 57, said he believed the crossing was an accident waiting to happen. “Motorists travelling east along Mornington-Tyabb Rd usually have the sun in their eyes in the morning and are most likely to be concentrating on the more noticeable traffic lights just ahead of the crossing,” Mr Sellers said.”

We Say:
I had to bring this to peoples attention… Since fucking when do flashing red lights and bells mean “Hey! Go right ahead, cross the track!” people who bitch and moan about having boom gates and that boom gates would have saved this womans life, give me a fucking break…

How many people have seen people drive AROUND boom gates in the city, people they are impatient arseholes….! Then they get hit by a train…. “The boom gates failed!!!” No sir, you’re fucking brain failed… Again…

I feel for the family and this womans fiance, but fuck me… To cross a rail crossing while the lights and bells are sounding… wake the fuck up… Unfortunately her family and future husband are going to pay for her own stupidity… There are worse ways to go, but ignoring a working rail crossing is pretty fucking moronic…

And to think that she was a pre-school teacher… I hope she did not lead by example, otherwise the folks of Tyabb WILL need boom gates… Don’t give me that look… That had to be said…

  1. It (in your oppinion)may have needed to be said but the way you said it was just downrite rude, insensative and vulgar, you were not there and do not know the full circumstances. I reckon you might be better off cleaning up your language and attitude.

  2. i totally agree with don,you the author of this disgraceful article
even thoe right is a sick individual

  3. Well Don and Walter… Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and I was entitled to my voice mine… Where are your blog posts demanding the introduction of boom gates to every rail crossing, just because people are too fucking stupid to slow down…

While you’re at it Don, find a fucking spellchecker… Seriously dude, spell a word or two right and I’ll take you seriously…

And Walter, try some punctuation, you might make a mark!!!

  4. Please. Don and Walter, the reality is Extremo’s spot on. In fact you both admitted that, so I’m finding it hard to figure out what you’re taking exception to. Abrasive perhaps, but for fucksake - it was ultimately an incredibly selfish act and everyone around her will pay for it for years. Not to mention the horror and guilt the train driver will be experiencing. What the fuck was she thinking? The spray given in this post, as terrible and tragic as this lady’s death was, was deserved. Damn straight.

“Earle Sellers, 57, said he believed the crossing was an accident waiting to happen.” Unbelievable. They’re red lights, on a FUCKING TRAIN TRACK. The only accident waiting to happen is from the morons making the choice to ignore that and drive straight through.

  5. Well, though I mightn’t agree with Extremo’s Language (and that’s totally a personal choice of mine), I have to totally agree with the article that he wrote.

I’ve been there in Surrey Hills when someone decided to go around the boom gates. It killed them. It’s not just in the country that people decide they know better…

Yeah sure, people speed, run orange/red lights, but getting impatient and running a train line, or dodging around boom gates is just plain stupid…

Keep up the good work Extremo.

  6. confuzzelled Says:

Wait … read this bit again:

“Motorists travelling east along Mornington-Tyabb Rd usually have the sun in their eyes in the morning and are most likely to be concentrating on the more noticeable traffic lights just ahead of the crossing,” Mr Sellers said.”

Is he referring to the rail crossing lights (as you’ve clearly assumed), or to a set of traffic lights at some intersection just in front of the rail crossing? It’s quite possible that the intersection was GREEN while the RED lights of the rail crossing were not visible in the morning sun. The article seems to imply that that is in fact the case.

I’m not from there, so I wouldn’t know. Common sense would suggest though that I would fact check my ass before opening my yap. Ooh look, 2 minutes with google maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Mornington-Tyabb+Rd,+tyabb,+victoria,+australia&sll=-33.687782,151.206894&sspn=0.456501,0.472412&ie=UTF8&ll=-38.261148,145.186252&spn=0.003365,0.00545&t=h&z=18&om=0>

Well, waddaya know .. an intersection just west of the rail crossing. Golly.

Hmm .. which is more important: reading comprehension or spelling ability?

  7. Oh I’m sorry… I didn’t realise I was writing for a fucking news agency and had to have all of my facts straight… Oh hang on, it’s a fucking opinion piece…!!!!

  8. I have just read with increasing disgust the vile rantings of Extremo. I knew Kay Stanley. She was one of the brightest, most caring people I’ve ever met. She did not have a selfish bone in her body. I never heard her say a unkind word about anyone.

I don’t know what the level crossing was like, what the sight lines were or the road conditions. What I am absolutely sure about though is that there is NO WAY that Kay would have deliberately driven through red lights.

I consider myself lucky to have known Kay. She brought joy, sunshine and happiness to many lives …unlike Extremo who is obviously a sick-minded and deservedly lonely individual.

  9. Mary, “I don’t know what the level crossing was like, what the sight lines were or the road conditions. ” Nuff said… kthnxbai!

    Sick minded…Perhaps… Lonely…never… :)

  10. Extremo, have you travelled across that level crossing? Have you read the quotes from others who have complained about problems there in the past (sun in their eyes + badly placed traffic lights, etc.)? That’s why I didn’t say I knew what happened.

However I did know Kay and knew she would not have done this deliberately. She wasn’t an impatient person … she worked with young children for Heaven’s sake.

DID YOU KNOW KAY? If you knew her you certainly wouldn’t call her stupid or selfish.

I believe it was an accident. A horrible, horrible accident.

People are broken up by what happened to Kay. Your nastiness just adds insult to injury.

  11. And Extremo - your comments serve no purpose but to wound and hurt others. You are just plain cruel.

  12. Angus Hubbard Says:

…Hell beckons extremo… and you wont find the beautiful kay stanley there to keep you company. She’s in the other place. And no i wont be coming back to this page to see your reply. I just hope whatever happened to you in your past you get over … and move on…

  13. Mary… An accident that was just plain AVOIDABLE!!! If the traffic lights were is such a bad position why the hell have they not been moved?!?!?!??! Come and talk to me when they haave moved the traffic lights love, I will then concede common sense to you, but before that, my comments stand… Red still means stop my love! Would of she ran a red light at the traffic lights?? I think not…

Angus… If I’m going to hell, I will see you there, the mere fact you took the time to come visit my blog and even COMMENT is gratification enough for me… :)

  14. Oh well I guess this website serves a purpose for society. Extremo can be as unpleasant and as hurtful as he likes on here and I hope it stops him going, as the Americans say, “postal”.

How relieved I am to merely be a neighbour of Extremo’s on cyberspace and not in the real world.

Kay had more talent and more humanity in her fingernail parings than you are even capable of imagining. She could make a child’s eyes light up just by entering a room. I have seen the Belfast Opera House sold out with children all spellbound by her smallest gesture.

The user who said he wouldn’t be coming back had the right idea. Carry on with your sad little vanities Extremo. I pity you.

  15. And yet Mary… You still come back… :)

  16. How evil you are….

  17. Evil is better than being a boring sap… :)

  18. I knew kay and am also a resident of tyabb that was at the fire station (right next down to the train station where the accident was). I was looking after kays fiance and her work collegues she was planning to meet. I had friends involved with getting her out. Did you no that kay was pregnant?, getting married in march. Hmm does that sound like a selfish person that doesn’t obey anything??

The traffic lights (that were installed just over 1 year ago) that you are all arguing over are approx 50 metres east of the rail crossing. The traffic lights stand out so for that you can see them atleast a kilometre away.
Where these old railway crossing lights are that old and faded your lucky to see them 10 metres away. With new houses with 12ft high fences backing right along the line, you are pratically on the crossing when you have view of both sides.
So when you are heading towards tyabb, ofcourse the brand spanking new traffic lights are gonna stand out more than rusty old 30-something-year-old faded railway lights.
So Extremo, could you do me a favor and have a drive down to tyabb (on a really bright sunny day)on the mornington-tyabb road at 10:25am with the sun beeming in your face. Than you can tell me, what stands out.
Oh, and dont forget to wave at the train when your on the crossing! Toot Toot

“Oh I’m sorry… I didn’t realise I was writing for a fucking news agency and had to have all of my facts straight… Oh hang on, it’s a fucking opinion piece…!!!!”

In future, opinions should be made on fact and not what you think cause you shoot your mouth off before you put your brain into gear

  19. Oh hang on… You forgot to cry in your Weeties…

  20. Extremo I think you need to settle petal! It is a tragic accident that has upset people and everyone is entitled to their opinion. In this case you are dealing with a community and a much loved young woman.

Have you ever driven and done something dumb? A few months ago I drove through a red light. Fortunately there was no traffic around. In 18 years of driving I have probably done that twice. Both times it has scared the shit out of me. We don’t have bells at our railway crossings up here and often the sun shines in such a way that it is hard to see the lights.

How about you just take a chill pill, smell the roses or whatever metaphor you want to use! Common sense says to leave this one for now :)

  21. I will leave it if others do, my dear… Simple fact remains, she made a mistake, I was pointing out that mistake… That’s the idea here, not personal attacks, people seem to think I’m making a personal attack…

I think people need to re-read what I’ve said and they can take the chill pill, just because I struck a raw nerve… Sit back and look at the bigger picture people… Red… Means… Stop…. Nothing else…

  22. Well well well, we have an expert on road conditions and common sense, and reading about an accident in a newspaper qualifies him for that.

I am talking about you extremo who makes such vulgar comments about a persons tragic accident and yet hides behind a non de plume.

As far as this site goes I can see it is dedicated to the death of common sense and it is also plain to see that there is plenty of deadness in here as we see the likes of a deadbeat being the author.

Mary if you read this my condolences to you, and Mel, on losing such a great friend and person. I also knew Kay and this post is not biased because of it, I was one of the fireys that untangled the mess, I am also a parent of a child that she taught.

I attended the funeral to find out that we actually lost 2 lives that day as Kay was 10 weeks pregnant.

Extremo you say she made a mistake but I bet you can’t pinpoint the exact mistake can you?
Was it she drove through the crossing when she shouldn’t have? Was it she was speeding and couldn’t stop? or was it She thought she could beat the train or some other excuse we could make up?

Pointless really calling it a mistake and not able to say exactly what the mistake is or was.

Only one person can answer that and she is not alive today.

I am surprised with your attitude towards people that you actually care for road rules, I mean you have no respect for people why have respect for the road rules?

As of last week the boom gates were turned on.

I am privy to some information that I will not disclose as it would upset too many people but all in all, a life was lost and it can not be replaced.

This will be my one and only post never to return, as I am not here to get engaged in a slanging match with any undesirable cowards who hide behind their monitors hurling absurd bullshit across the net with little or no information.

Extremo you also mention unavoidable? how could you believe such a daft conception?

I am sure anyone who has ever been in an accident said oh yeah this is avoidable but I think I’ll go for it anyway.

Accidents do happen as simple as that, however if you want something to think about ponder this:

    The train was speeding……

From the point of impact to where the train stopped was approx 200 meters, that is understandable you may say, but what about the fact that the train was stopping in another 20 meters anyway? surely if the train had applied emergency brakes it would have done better to pull up than only a mere 20meters early? As the train should have been braking at the point of impact anyway. Not that this would have saved Kays life as any impact drivers side would have killed her.

  23. Ahem… Let me repeat for the latecomers… Eg. Robbo…. Red…. Means…. Stop…. Nothing else… Red…. Means…. Stop….

Did she cross the train tracks while the lights and bells were going? Yes…

Nuff said mate… The fact that she was pregnant, a good pre-school teacher, a great person, etc etc etc. is not the issue here and this was not a personal attack…

“I feel for the family and this womans fiance” sure, I’m all one-sided…

The fact you actually came to this site and spent a good hour working on your comment is gratification enough for me… Means people are talking and common sense is being talked about again… Did you even have a look at my other posts?

I’m not one of these fuckwits that go around casting personal attacks on people… I even stated to an online community that not everyone was going to like what I had to say on the topic… It was a tragedy, but an avoidable one, whether it was a mistake on her part, or it IS a bad crossing, that fact remains that more and more people are getting killed at crossings… I’m from the country and there are NO boom crossings, simply lights and bells, hell there are even crossings with just signs warning you!!! People need to LEARN to act responsibly around rail crossings, the signs in the country don’t say STOP for no fucking good reason… People need to slow down and wake up to the fact… Seriously… It seems that more innocent lives will be lost before people realise this…

And lastly, don’t fucking blame the train driver, that is one excuse that cannot and should not be tabled… They have a job to do and I guarantee you that many many many more accidents are avoided because of their quick thinking and actions… There are two factors involved here, human error and design of the train crossing… Nothing else…

  24. Marisa Hampshire Says:

This is my one and only posting. I also knew Kay and I could not leave this page without responding.

Extremo, I find you extremely insensitive. Yes, you are entitled to your opinions, but, in this instance, please keep them to yourself. Kay’s friends and family certainly do not need to read them, especially now. If you can, please think of them and have some respect for their feelings. What purpose do your words actually serve other than to hurt those who loved Kay?

In essence, there is no right or wrong, rhyme or reason. All we know for certain is that a beautiful persons’ life has tragically ended too soon.

I ask you to respectfully leave this topic now.

  25. name is unimportant Says:

‘Death of Common Sense’… an interesting title. I would have thought of all people you would have the ‘common sense’ to not blantantly disregard other peoples feelings and ignore other possibilities… Instead of immediately jumping on the defensive (or do so if you truly believe you are correct), try also apologising to those you have offended. And yes, I did notice that you showed empathy to the family, but at least try apologising, it will do nothing but add to your credability.

  26. My word is gospel… That is all…

  27. LISTEN EXTREMO… IM GOING TO FUCK YOUR SHIT UP… I KNOW WHO YOU ARE.. YOU’VE DONE MORE THAN OFFENDED PEOPLE ON HERE YOU’VE CROSSED A LINE. BAD FOR YOU THIS SITE EXISTS………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. YOUR FUCKED.

  28. On the contrary Red, she crossed the line…

  29. mutha fucker you really have no idea who your dealing with. i want you to write a full appologie on this site before it gets taken down.

  30. I really want you to use a spell checker, but whatever floats your boat…

  31. red - Your internet tough guy faggotary is hilarious. Publish your name or an email you soft cock.

  32. yonderboy Says:

i may not agree with what you say, but i will die fighting for your right to say it.

actually, no. i agree extremo, but that’s not my point. he has a right to say what ever he wants, without risk of censorship. people, if you really have a problem with what is being said on a site, do yourself a favour and stop reading what’s written on it. extremo is entitled to his opinion, as you obviously believe you are. if you think he’s being vile, or hurtful, or over opinionated then so be it, but you’re seriously marring your holier-than-thou attitude in the offensive statements you are making in retort. why not keep a civil tongue in your mouth and lead by example.

and hey red - while your vague threats do amuse me, i’m not sure your leet skills will quite take the site down. fully sick *and* leet. that’s an odd combination.

arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics; even if you win, you’re still retarded..

  33. Ah the obligatory name calling and disbelief that follows grief. Honestly put, grief is something everyone has to deal with and with regards to etiquette it is my opinion that placing the persons name in a reply is far more insensitive than vulgar language.

As far as addressing the topics of calling people ‘evil’ or saying they are going to hell, that is simply unfounded. Sans twitter, I know only one commenter in real life who rightly points out that objections to language are personal opinion and still goes on to commend Extremo for the work on this site.

Further, stupidity on the road is not something new. In fact it is more likely those who are considered “moral” or “kind” people who will disregard road rules and do so whilst trying to justify “common sense”.

With regards to the circumstances of the accident, I could suggest many things that are plausible. Fact is though that I don’t know what happened. Was the Lady distracted? Did she just have a fight with her fiance? Was it sabotage? All of those are in fact plausible and down right insensitive. I will not hold to them or defend them outside of writing them to prove the point that the facts aren’t all known.

Grief is grief, there is a time to morn and there is a time for joy. What happened was a tragedy.

So, I think I have successfully annoyed enough people already with these comments so I will say one thing plain and simple. I will finish by saying that it is obvious Extremo is as grieved by the events as everyone else clearly is.

    God bless,
    Matt
